I AM TONY

i died the day a famous person did.
i always made sure that the spot
where i slept in golden gate park
was unnoticeable.  i rolled up
my sleeping bag & concealed it
from joggers.  there is no sign
of me to passersby on a morning
walk.  word got around that i'd
had a heart attack & was taken
to general hospital. someone
in the church where i eat a weekly
warm meal learned from the front
desk clerk in the hospital lobby
that i was never admitted
never discharged, the world
is perplexing.
i once
meditated & studied
martial arts with international
masters.
gentleness & calm
have always been my pillow.
