listening eyes

between

a pregnant

cloud

and

the ground

passes

a flashing

current

caught

in

a clap

of

thunder

i lost

my hearing

as if

trans-

muted

by a

lucent

black sound

in a

city

of silence

dew

on a honey-

suckle

tinkles

like wind-bells

message in the air

after fasting in the forest

in the precincts of a shrine

          a man is blowing

                         a conch horn

no matter what

     the surrounding mountains

                    echo the sound

     until it opens up

               the frozen sky –

a bright red ball sinking

below the horizon

at the meeting time

of the sky with the water,

a sutra

     open on my desk

          by candlelight,

at a fish

     popping up

          above the text

                         i blink –

a message

     in the air

               again back

                         to water…
