I Am A Creature of the Night

I am a creature of the night,
Preferring darkness to the light;
For in the darkness I conceal
Everything light would reveal.

Morning brings, with its blinding glare,
A glimpse of truth at which I stare.
But I don’t care for “truth” or “right”
I am a creature of the night.

Daylight illumines what is real,
But what it shows has no appeal.
That’s why I shun the clear and bright,
Preferring darkness to the light.

I slight the mirror when I rise,
Avoiding my reflected eyes.
What can’t be seen can cause no fright.
I am a creature of the night.

When I am forced to face the facts,
It stops me dead within my tracks;
Through daylight hours I hold tight,
preferring darkness to the light.

Within the gloom of night I hide.
Among the shadows I reside.
At the break of dawn, I take flight;
I am a creature of the night

There is nothing I wish to see
But what it is I choose to be!
I cast the truth out from my sight,
Preferring darkness to the light

I’d keep the light of day at bay
(If I could ever have my way),
Preferring darkness to the light.
I am a creature of the night.
