LITTLE PIG OF BEAUTY

sets the swine style tone
in her pen.Too frail to breed, moon-hued  lashes,
dainty trotters, all the rage  through scented days
of corn, zucchini, beefsteak tomatoes
ripening in tune to her soprano squeal,
bass snuffle of  the suitor
who overcomes her diffidence
until the blunt end of an axe
put the kibosh on her bliss.
At dinner I said thanks to a second helping.
From the kitchen mirror flashed back a twitch
of snout, eyes screwed in their sockets.

THE RAVENOUS WOMAN

Her dome of blue hair collapses into waves,
delighting the plankton.
The Big Dipper licks at her hungry face.
She devours rivers of fire and fire ants.
Bees sweep into her ear, owls glide down
her throat.  She hoots and hums
gobbling plateaus and peninsulas.
Thunder wanders in her belly,
lightning jitters through her bones.
She swallows whales for lunch,
prickly tongue lapping up tides.
Famished once more she seizes The Man
in the Moon, spits out his bones,
amuses herself with a handful of stars,
delicate as cracker dust.
Not even a quake flinging her
a mountain chain from roots of the sea
can dampen her unfathomable gluttony.
