Revolt

You awaken from a dream
realizing for thirty years that

nothing belongs to you
This day will be the same as
the day before and the day after
Nothing will change
It will be the same leaky roof
under the same divided sky over
the same gnawing hunger and hope
For thirty years the dream you’ve
dreamed has been someone else’s
and nothing awaits you but death
Suddenly, the dawn is studded with stones
and the ground with rampaging footsteps
echoing the weight of human despair
You pluck a stone from the sky
realizing the stone in your hand is your life
and you lob it at the cruel universe till it
strikes a blow at sorrow
Higher and farther, at the Pharaoh’s camel
Again and again, at the bullets of deception
Higher and further, till the stone lifts its
burden of death like dew!
